Andrea Knapp, Founder of Lit Scents, was born and raised in Chile. She moved to Ottawa, Ontario, Canada in 2018 for what would be "a year". Little did she know things would work out to later become a permanent resident.

When she moved to Canada, she wasn't sure how she would deal with a Canadian winter, so she decided to find an indoor hobby for those days it's too cold or snow-stormy to be out, so she learned how to make candles. Aren't candles a symbol of coziness? 

Her first candles were... you know, amateur. It took some trial and error (or more than just "some").

Candles are like science and with some perseverance, she finally found ratios that worked.

She also happened to have full time jobs supporting Canadian entrepreneurs and small businesses, so it became apparent this was her shot at a side hustle. 

The candle-making space is competitive though, so she really wanted to find that "special something" to make her different. A few ideas came up, either not feasible or just "not it".

When she thought about her own candle-shopping choices, she realized that while candles are awesome, they melt and that's it for them! Maybe you keep the container, maybe not, but the fact is there was no candle no more. So... she came up with the idea of adding something to the candle to make it personal, and to make it last (the memory, at least).

She experimented with messages and photos, even bought a Cricut! So there she was, making magnets to place on the lid. These would remain after the candle melts. Again, some trial and error happened, until she opened up in October 2020 and her first batch sold out in less than a month.

This was it - the start of her candle empire.
